New NSW Battery Rebate Program Starting November 2024
The NSW Government is rolling out a new battery rebate initiative starting from 1 November 2024, aimed at helping households and businesses reduce their energy bills and increase energy independence. This rebate can save you up to $2400 on battery installations, making solar energy storage more affordable than ever.
How the NSW Battery Rebate Works
Under this new program, eligible participants can receive significant savings on the upfront costs of installing a solar battery. The incentives range between $1600 and $2400, depending on the size and type of the battery installed. Additionally, households can earn an extra $250 to $400 by connecting the battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP), a bonus that can be claimed twice within a three-year interval.
Eligibility Criteria for the NSW Battery Rebate
To qualify for this rebate, residents and businesses must meet the following requirements:
- Own an Existing Solar System – or be planning to purchase a new one along with a battery.
- Purchase a New Battery – Rebate applies only to new battery installations.
- Use a Certified Installer – The installer must be accredited to ensure compliance and eligibility.
- Connect to a Virtual Power Plant (optional) – For additional incentives, connecting your battery to a VPP is an option.
Why Install a Battery Now?
Aside from the direct savings, installing a solar battery comes with numerous benefits:
- Reduced Energy Costs: Maximize the use of your solar-generated power by storing excess energy during the day and using it at night.
- Enhanced Grid Stability: More batteries mean a more stable and reliable energy grid, especially during peak demand.
- Lower Environmental Impact: This initiative supports NSW’s goal to reduce carbon emissions by 70% by 2035 and reach net-zero by 2050.
